Hopes new designated centre will see more people take up powerlifting
Powerlifting Isle of Man is optimistic that relocating to a new dedicated facility in Douglas will encourage more young individuals to participate in the sport. The organization, formerly known as Manx Powerlifting, has transitioned from its previous location at Revolution Gym in Castletown to a more accessible site at the former L'Experience building on Summerhill Road.
The new venue, named the Powerlifting Isle of Man Performance & Development Centre, is set to open its doors by early March. This move is seen as a significant step forward, as the previous location presented various challenges that hindered growth and participation. Liz Young, Deputy Director of Operations, highlighted how the old base created barriers that limited the accessibility of powerlifting for potential athletes.
With a focus on fostering talent and increasing interest in powerlifting among the youth, the organization believes that the new centre will provide a more welcoming and supportive environment. The dedicated facilities are expected to enhance training opportunities and community engagement, ultimately helping to cultivate a new generation of powerlifters on the Isle of Man.
The initiative aligns with a broader goal of promoting fitness and strength training within the community, and Powerlifting Isle of Man is eager to see the positive impact this new centre will have on local sports culture.
