Minister: avoid cheap homemade drinks when abroad

• Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford says public health will continue issuing guidance to Manx residents to stay safe abroad.
• He was replying to a question for written answer from Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher about the dangers of methanol poisoning.
• Mr Ashford says Public Health Isle of Man says travellers should heed advice from organisations such as the UK Health Security Agency about contaminated alcohol overseas.

Man who walked across America plans Manx challenge

• A man who walked 2,000 miles across America for men's mental health is coming to the Island for a new challenge.
• Callum Ball, from Liverpool, will be travelling to the Island on Monday, August 10 to complete the Raad-ny-Foillan to raise money for a suicide prevention charity.
• On top of the walk from his home, the challenge will see the man nicknamed ’BackpackBoz’ cover 120 miles.

Hospitality firms owe £2.8 million in VAT

• A total of 79 hospitality and entertainment firms have owed £2.8 million in VAT for more than three months.
• That’s according to Treasury Minister Chris Thomas, who gave the figure in response to a Tynwald question for written reply.
• It asked how many of the Island’s 458 VAT-registered hospitality businesses were more than three months behind on their VAT returns.

Drugs smuggling charges against man dropped

• He was arrested after police seized drugs from a car arriving on the ferry.
• Deepan Goel, aged 39, of Abbington Way, had previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of the offence.
• Mr Goel was arrested on July 1, with two other males, after police seized 85.53 grams of drugs from a car arriving on the ferry from Heysham.

Who was there: The Lord Bishop, HM Attorney General, Mrs August-Phillips, Mr Clueit, Mr Craine, Mrs Kelsey, Mrs Kinnish, Mr Mercer, Mrs Morphet, Mr Reid. IN THE KEYS
NHS reform: Ms Christian's National Health Service Reform Bill went through clause-by-clause scrutiny. Mr Hooper, Mrs Corlett and Mrs Poole-Wilson moved amendment groups; many carried, while several contested amendments were defeated.
Entity registration: Mr Johnston’s Verification of Entity Registration Bill went through clause scrutiny. Mrs Corlett moved eight amendments and they were carried; the amended clauses were ordered to stand part.
Period products: Ms Faragher asked the House to agree Legislative Council amendments. Amendments 1 and 2 carried; Amendment 3 was tied 11-11 and lost after the Speaker used the casting vote against it.
Assisted Dying Bill: members debated amendments and divisions on the next steps for safeguards, capacity and Privy Council concerns.
