• A Douglas councillor says he's hoping to swap the local authority for the House of Keys this year. • Peter Washington, who was elected to the local authority in 2021, announced on his Facebook page he’d stand in Douglas North. • He’s a former paramedic and RNLI crew member as well as a trade union activist and says if elected he’d work to improve housing and protect tenants’ rights.
• A warning that this story contains information which some readers may find upsetting. • Manx Care is to be asked to consider its approach to certain mental health referrals after a verdict of suicide was recorded at the inquest of a Laxey man who died last year. • Philip Ashley Cooper was found at his home address on 28 August; the 42-year-old had died of asphyxiation.

• An Island racer says he's glad to have an awning back, after it was stolen from the Southern 100 paddock at the weekend. • Paul Cassidy took to Facebook to appeal for its return after it went missing in the early hours of Saturday, July 4. • In a post on Facebook, he says the awning has now been returned and thanked all those who helped reunite him with it.
• 60 year seven pupils from all six of the Island's secondary schools have taken part in an all-island Maths Challenge. • The event at King William’s College saw teams tackle a series of maths and engineering challenges. • The competition concluded with teams building the tallest free-standing tower using only paper and Sellotape.
• The Swedish island of Gotland is set to host the Games for a third time. • Archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, shooting (clay and rifle), swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball will be part of the programme for the games in the Swedish island. • It was confirmed over the weekend that the biennial festival of sport will be held in the Baltic Sea island for a third time at the International Island Games Association’s annual general meeting.

• Worries over Atlantic salmon has led the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to introduce restrictions for fishers. • DEFA says the fish’s declining population means it’s introduced voluntary conservation measures for the coming season, with catch-and-release only fishing and the use of barbless hooks. • More potential regulatory measures are being looked at for 2027 as DEFA tries to help the salmon population recover.
• Douglas council says it has just under 40 properties on a dilapidation blacklist. • At its last meeting, the local authority heard its schedule of properties in a state of dilapidation or disrepair had 38 entries on it. • Four properties had been removed recently because work had been carried out on them, while another eight had been added.
• The government says it's spent around half the money it set aside for major projects this year. • Rushen MHK Juan Watterson put a question for written reply to Treasury Minister Chris Thomas about capital spending. • He wanted to know how much was earmarked for schemes and how much was actually spent over the last year.

• The Department of Infrastructure says it's installed fencing around a Peel landmark to keep the public out for safety reasons. • A Freedom of Information request asked about fencing at Castle Jetty and East Pier, which has developed large cracks threatening the structure. • In its response, the department said fencing it already owned had been used to seal off the jetty after engineering advice.
• The number of crimes tied to domestic incidents rose by nearly 17 percent over the past year. • According to figures from the chief constable’s annual report, the amount of crimes rose from 203 to 237. • However, there were fewer offences recorded under the Domestic Abuse Act - those fell from 68 to 43 over the same period.
• Public safety should never be sidelined by red tape. • Over the weekend, the Isle of Man Constabulary confirmed it had launched an investigation after a video circulating on social media appeared to show an alleged incident inside a taxi. • Police said they were aware of the footage and confirmed the matter was an ’active investigation, urging members of the public not to speculate or draw conclusions while inquiries continue.

• Police were called to a woman’s address. • Thirty-three-year-old Kristopher Goldie, of Poortown, was arrested on May 24 after a woman called the police. • She said Goldie was outside her address, banging on the door and shouting abuse.
• A Ramsey resident has been left scratching their heads over a bush's mystery liquid coating. • William Hankin posted to a local Facebook group about the bushes outside the Manx electric Railway Station on Albert Street in the town. • He included photos showing a white liquid splattered all over the greenery, asking for help identifying it.
