Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice today

Residents of the Isle of Man are advised to exercise caution today, Saturday, February 14, as icy conditions persist on the roads. A yellow weather warning for frost and ice has been issued, remaining in effect until midday following overnight wintry showers that have left many surfaces slick and hazardous.

As temperatures dipped, the risk of icy patches increased, prompting police to remind motorists to take extra care while driving. In addition to the icy conditions, another yellow warning for snow and sleet is set to take effect at 7 PM. Forecasts suggest that areas above 500 feet could see accumulations of 1 to 5 centimeters, with the potential for up to 10 centimeters on the higher hills, continuing until 6 AM on Sunday, February 15.

Due to the adverse weather, the Mountain Road is expected to remain closed throughout the weekend, with the Department of Infrastructure monitoring the situation closely. They have indicated that the route could potentially reopen sooner if conditions improve, but safety remains the top priority.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and travel advisories and to consider postponing any non-essential travel during this period of inclement weather. The Isle of Man continues to experience challenging winter weather, and community safety is paramount.
