Giant crane to lift new flue sections in Peel Power Station repair
Manx Utilities is set to commence significant repair work at the Peel Power Station, with plans to install four large flue sections as part of an essential maintenance project. This initiative follows damage inflicted by Storm Γowyn last year and is focused on enhancing the long-term functionality of the power station's exhaust stack.
A 220-tonne high-reach crane will be deployed for the operation, arriving on site from Douglas on Monday, 16 February. The installation process is anticipated to take up to a week, pending favourable weather conditions. High winds could pose a challenge, potentially delaying both the craneβs arrival and the lifting of the flue sections.
The crane will travel to Peel as a large road vehicle, and Manx Utilities is coordinating with the crane operator to ensure a safe and efficient delivery. The utility company has assured the public that any necessary traffic management measures will be communicated in advance, aiming to minimize disruption during this crucial repair work.
This project marks an important step in maintaining the integrity and reliability of the Peel Power Station, which plays a vital role in the Isle of Manβs energy infrastructure. Residents and stakeholders will be kept informed as the project progresses, with updates regarding any potential impacts on local traffic and operations.
