Customer service crown handed out in capital

The Douglas City Council Chamber was filled with excitement as the 2026 Customer Service Champion Awards celebrated the exceptional talents of local businesses in the Isle of Man's capital. This annual event, organized by Douglas City Centre Management, aims to recognize those individuals who go above and beyond to create a welcoming atmosphere in the city centre.

In a public vote that saw over 5,500 submissions, Rachel Marsland from Terry's Tatos emerged as the winner, earning the title of Customer Service Champion. Expressing her gratitude, Rachel emphasized the importance of treating customers with kindness and respect, a philosophy she attributes to the late Terry, the business's founder. She was awarded a trophy, a plaque, and Β£200 in vouchers for her outstanding service.

The awards also celebrated other notable finalists, including Kenny Susaya from TK Maxx, who secured the runner-up position, and Connie Watson from Wine Down, who took third place. Connie shared her belief that excellent service is about being a friendly face to regulars and brightening someone's day. Additional finalists recognized for their contributions included Romilda Dentith from CafΓ© Royale, Nathan Stephens-Silverthorne from M&S, Mirella Annis from Boots, Daren Connor from TG Jones, and Jack Bridson from Devereau’s.

Mayor Steven Crellin commended all finalists for their dedication and hard work, noting the heartwarming feedback from the public. He encouraged them to take pride in their achievements, which reflect the community's appreciation for excellent service. Oliver Cheshire, Douglas City Centre Manager, highlighted the campaign's reach, stating that it resonated with over 360,000 people on social media, underscoring the value of local talent and the importance of customer service in fostering community loyalty.
